2011 APC Session Goals

Developed at the annual APC Session Retreat

February 5, 2011

1. Strive for excellence in worship.  We seek to glorify God with devotion, joy and reverence in every aspect of worship.  Toward this end, and through its worship committee, the Session commits to:

A.  Train greeters, ushers, liturgists, sound system operators, and acolytes
B.  Provide outstanding preaching, music and liturgy
C.  Educate the congregation about worship
D. Create a more worshipful experience and environment
E. Evaluate the best format for Sunday morning worship

2. Establish a strategic plan.  Our recently-formed Long Range Planning Committee will present to Session a strategy that establishes:

A.  APC’s long range plan
B.  A staffing plan
C.  A plan for building and grounds
D.  Mission priorities

E. Develop a process to implement and then measure the progress and effectiveness of these plans

3. Strengthen hospitality.  The Session and Deacons will work cooperatively to provide welcome and friendship to members and visitors in these ways:

A. Continue to develop, staff and make use of the information booth
B. Continue to improve the newly refreshed APC website
C. Assure that all APC events offer welcome and are attentive to visitors
D. Increase nametag use and provide more opportunities to strengthen fellowship
E. Provide education to the congregation on Christian hospitality

4. Increase member participation. The membership and commitment committees will work cooperatively and with the Deacons to encourage all members to live out their membership responsibilities in these ways:

A. Contact inactive members in the hope of reengaging them
B. Improve the accuracy and use of the APC membership database as a tool for ministry
C. Challenge members to deeper discipleship and a discernment of their gifts so that “every member has a ministry”
D.  Increase awareness of, and participation in, volunteer opportunities within and beyond APC
E.   Improve new member assimilation into the life and work of APC
