APC Youth Mission ~ Summer 2012
|
Each summer, the youth of Alpharetta Presbyterian Church spread the Word of God to those in need by serving underprivileged communities in the US and abroad. Our youth mission trips allow young people in middle and high School to see first hand how actions sometimes speak louder than words, how good works bring the Kingdom of Heaven to Earth and how God is at work in the world each and every day.
Students who are fortunate enough to participate on these trips come home changed. They see God in the most unlikely places, and they learn that faith has no economic, social, or racial barriers. Students are continually touched and amazed by the boundless faith of those they serve....much of the time, our students are helped as much as they help!
Summer 2012 will be no different, as our students spread out across the country, in Appalachia, in Charlotte and in North Georgia, to serve, build, teach, and grow as young Christians. Below are the details about our trips, along with sign up information.

MIDDLE SCHOOL MISSION TRIP ~ Sunday, June 3 - Friday, June 8

HIGH SCHOOL MISSION TRIP ~ Sunday, June 17 - Saturday, June 23
Appalachia Service Project (this trip is FULL)
Eligible: completed 8th thru 12th grade (must be at least 14 years old)
Cost: $150.00 (3 payments of $50 each due by Nov 30, Jan 30, and Mar 30)
Appalachia’s poorest families urgently need your help to make their homes warmer, safer and drier. When you arrive for your week of service, you'll be housed in one of ASP's several base camps (often a school or community center rented for the summer) to put you closer to Appalachia's remote communities. Your group will receive all the tools, construction materials and supervision it needs to be productive as well as all meals and plenty of opportunities for worship and reflection.

HIGH SCHOOL MISSION TRIP ~ Saturday, July 14 - Friday, July 20
Eligible: completed 9th thru 12th grade
Cost: $100.00 (2 payments of $50 each due by Nov 30 and Mar 30)
Camp Hope exists to improve the lives of prisoners' children and to break the vicious cycle of incarceration. We help them rise above their circumstances, teach them to become leaders and provide hope through Christian programming and a fun environment. Our students are counselors and are 9th-12th graders or in college. They are leaders and well-grounded in their Christian faith. All counselors go through the Camp Hope training and must commit to the entire week of camp. Every teen counselor is paired in a one-on-one relationship with a camper. College counselors might have two or three campers. We have high expectations for our counselors because we depend on them to oversee their camper 24/7. In addition, counselors learn how to be a “kid” again with their camper and teach their camper by actions rather than words. The teen or college counselor is not only a counselor, but a mentor, sister or brother, and friend for the whole week. Every cabin is led by a head counselor that supports each counselor in many ways.
